Rusizi: Taxpayers incur losses amid paying taxes at once

It’s disturbing to pay all taxes at the same time, Rusizi District residents told Ben Kagarama; Commissioner general, Rwanda Revenue Authority during his visit on March 15th 2013.

This is because towards the end of the March, taxpayers are asked to pay district taxes and RRA taxes which they say is inconveniencing in terms of loss.

The executive secretary of Kamembe sector Gilbert Rukazambuga asserts that tax payers should be careful while the problem is being solved.

During the visit, Commissioner General Kagarama assured taxpayers that different concerned authorities will discuss the matter with an aim of finding the solution.

Ben Kagarama added that it’s a problem that needs consideration so as to make things easy for the taxpayers.

Entrepreneurs used to complain about taxes charged on tenders before they are paid in addition to heavy fines for delayed payments.

Responding on this issue, Ben Kagarama explained that after the government learnt it was causing loss to the tax payers, it will take up paying taxes and fines in case of delays.

This is meant to help the government speed up the process of paying the contractor, explains Drocelle Mukashyaka, director for taxpayer services department in Rwanda Revenue authority.

This policy was published in the government news letter of January 28th 2013, informing the concerned authority to announce tenders and follow up to pay the valued added tax (TVA).
